When I was young, my mom would try to get me to eat mushrooms by saying “Come on! You’ll love ‘em. They’re aphrodisiacs!” Me, being, you know, 10 or something would respond with “I don’t care if they’re aphroamericans*, I’m not eating them!” taking what I thought was quite a principled stand. Today, I rather enjoy mushrooms and made some with my pasta just now.

*Our family did not condone cannibalism. It was really the only thing that I could think of at such a young age that began with an “aff” sound.

PS: If my mother was smart, she would’ve referenced Mario and I’da been all over those shrooms like lesbians at a Home Depot sale.

PPS: Why was my mother trying to give me aphrodisiacs at such a young age?
